With over 30 years of mastery experiences, Renée Wilson-Wicker, a distinguished educator, recently retired from the Gwinnett County (GA) Public School District. Holding the Bachelor of Music degree (Education emphasis) from Capital University, the Master of Music degree in Voice Performance from the Manhattan School of Music and advanced Music Education coursework from the University of Georgia, Renée's influence in teaching choral music and voice at the Middle & High School levels is celebrated. Her groups consistently earned Superior and Excellent ratings and her students have excelled in various Honor Choruses and national events through the Georgia Music Educators Association and the Amercian Choral Directors Association. As an educator, Ms. Wilson-Wicker has been recognized by the prestigious Who's Who Among America's Teachers over multiple years.
Renée, an active conductor, clinician, adjudicator, and servant leader, holds membership in the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA), Georgia Music Educators Association (GMEA), Arizona Choral Educators (ACE), Arizona Music Educators Association (AzMEA), and the National Association for Music Education (NAfME). She is a former Choral Division Chair and Vice President for All-State Events in Georgia as well as a Certified Head Adjudicator for the Georgia Music Educators Association. Choirs under her direction have performed masterworks by Britten, Duruflé, Fauré, Handel, Mozart, Rutter, Vaughn Williams and Vivaldi among others, have performed for the GMEA In-Service Conference as well as twice at Carnegie Hall.
One of the many joys of her musical career has been conducting performances with her students and for various honor events. In June 2023, Ms. Wilson-Wicker made her conducting debut at Carnegie Hall, performing the Karl Jenkins "Te Deum" with a massed choir that included her current and alumni students. She will return to that hallowed hall in June 2025 to conduct once again.
As an outgrowth of her teaching, Renée produces Choral Rehearsal and Performance Tracks for multiple genres of choral music. She has been the treble (and sometimes tenor) voice for Georgia District 13 Honor Chorus tracks for nearly 15 years. Another area of her creative expertise has been making arrangements of Pop, Broadway and Country Pop music for her students as well as for commissions.
Recent projects include composing the sight-reading examples for GMEA Choral Division Large Group Performance Evaluation, used statewide in 2024. The more than 40 examples range from Beginning level/6th grade unison to multiple part variations through Class A, the highest classification level. The response to these 8 measure sight-reading examples has been overwhelmingly positive and Renée will be composing them for LGPE 2025. She is also completing a commissioned arrangement of Billy Joel's "Vienna" for a Massachusetts HS Senior Graduation tribute, complete with a performance backing track. There are also ongoing discussions to produce rehearsal tracks for a large district honor chorus in the fall of 2024, an All-State chorus for 2025, and a university's non-major choral ensembles.
Her career of musical accomplishments has prompted the creation of Diva Notes Music in order to share her love of music, music education, conducting and performance. One of her greatest joys is making music, music connection and inspiration, and helping others do the same.
Based out of Phoenix, Arizona, Renée is the wife of Karl (also known as “The Husband”), Aunt to Tessa and Aubrey, Bonus Mom to Karl and Valeria, Nana Née to Daniel, Rosalyn, Ariana and Pete, and Mama Wicker to her students.
